Road Tax Calculator (Cukai Jalan)
Work out your annual JPJ road tax by engine capacity or EV motor power.
Vehicle Details
Business-registered saloons pay a higher rate. No difference for non-saloon.
Use combined output for dual-motor / AWD EVs.
Rates follow JPJ's published cc-based schedule (petrol/diesel) or the 2026 kW-based EV schedule. Sabah/Sarawak figures are approximated -- check MyJPJ for your exact renewal amount.

"+ RM x/cc" applies to every cc above that bracket's floor (e.g. above 1,600cc, above 1,800cc, and so on).
How This Is Calculated
- Petrol/diesel: a flat fee applies up to 1,600cc, then a base rate plus a per-cc surcharge for every cc above each bracket's floor. Saloon (sedan/hatchback/coupe) and non-saloon (SUV/MPV/pickup) use different tables -- non-saloons pay slightly more at small engine sizes but noticeably less at large engine sizes.
- Business registration: company-registered saloon cars pay roughly double the personal-registration rate up to 2,500cc, rising to about 2.6–2.8× above that. Non-saloon vehicles pay the same rate regardless of registration type.
- Electric vehicles (EV): from 1 January 2026, JPJ taxes EVs by motor power output (kW) instead of engine cc, across power bands with no saloon/non-saloon distinction. Figures here are interpolated from the published band boundaries and are approximate -- confirm your exact figure via MyJPJ.
- Sabah/Sarawak: East Malaysia rates are lower than Peninsular Malaysia. This calculator applies an approximate discount to the Peninsular formula; the official East Malaysia schedule may differ bracket by bracket.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Malaysia road tax calculated for petrol/diesel cars?
A flat fee applies up to 1,600cc, then a base rate plus a per-cc surcharge above each bracket's floor, up to 3,000cc and beyond. Saloon and non-saloon vehicles use different tables.
Is EV road tax cheaper than petrol car road tax?
For most mainstream EVs, yes -- road tax is based on motor power (kW) instead of engine cc from 1 January 2026, with no saloon/non-saloon distinction.
Why is road tax cheaper in Sabah and Sarawak?
JPJ sets lower rates for East Malaysia given road conditions and reliance on larger 4WD vehicles. This calculator applies an approximate discount -- check MyJPJ for your exact figure.
Does a company-registered car pay more road tax?
Yes, for saloon cars -- roughly double the personal rate up to 2,500cc, rising higher above that. Non-saloon vehicles pay the same rate regardless of registration type.
